Here is the truth.
This list was once a valuable place to discuss physics. The number of
participants has dropped in recent years. It is now obvious this is the
home for self-important old white men that don't trust anyone but
themselves, people that look like them, and the institutions that empower
them.
Enjoy your time on this flat-earth island.
I don't say this out of hate. It is out of frustration. Most of the rest
of the educated world has moved on from the flat-Earth theory. I'm with
them.
I'm leaving this list and going to discuss physics on twitter. Those
physics conversations are actually physics conversations.
Shame on you for representing education and physics in this amazingly
self-focussed manner.
Peace & Equality.

This is just partisan nonsense that does not belong here. Your leftist
rant is no more appropriate than if I gave mine from a right-wing view.
It's not science - it's opinion - and offensive in its shallowness.

David,
With all due respect, your attack on the mainstream news media, your
suggestion that widely respected fact-checkers can't be trusted, and
all your contention that doing your own fact-checking is the onlyof a
appropriate recourse, is swiftly belied by your own continuing defense
former one-term president who brazenly, transparently lied to theAmerican
people tens of thousands of times, who completely abandoned any effort towho
address a raging pandemic that has killed half of a million Americans,
bent over backwards to accommodate and kiss the asses of America’s mostin
dangerous authoritarian foes, and who capped off all of that and far more
by abandoning any pretense of governing after he lost the election in
November in favor of months of telling the ultimate Big Lie—that he
didn’t—in favor of seditious conspiracy with his fellow Republicans, and
favor of the open incitement of a violent, terrorist mob that stormed andit
desecrated the Capitol looking to assassinate the Vice-President and
members of Congress and that very nearly succeeded in ending American
democracy.
You call yourself a scientist. Shame on you.
John Mallinckrodt
P.S. I apologize to the list for my impatience and intolerance here, but
I, for one, have simply had it with people like David Marx who, whether
be for reasons of religion, greedy self-interest, ignorance, or simplynoble,
abject stupidity—and I think we all know which one applies here—have
devoted themselves to aiding and abetting those who would throw our
two-and-a-half-century experiment in democracy in the toilet and flush itphys-l@mail.phys-l.org>
away all the way calling themSELVES “Patriots.”
Should I be penalized with ostracism from the list for this “impolite"
outburst of IMO much-needed and long-overdue honesty, bring it on.
Never more sincerely,

While this topic is generally outside the realm of physics topics, it
relevant to epistemology. We are dependent on others to give us factualsimple
information on which we are to make decisions. This goes far beyond
media bias. It has gotten to the point where the media crafts theall
narrative to promote an outcome. That is unacceptable. I do not rely on
any news sources to give me facts. As in physics, we go to the primary
source for our information and make our own conclusions. We can't even
rely on so-called "fact checkers." We have to be our own fact checkers
when it comes to anything political, just as we read journal articles and
examine the methods and data to come to our own conclusions. Most people
though are not willing to take the time to do that fact checking, and
that's why its possible to change reality for a large part of the
population by controlling the narrative.

How the mainstream media reports a story is not the primary problem,
daily on CNN, PBS, and FOX and the different agendas will quickly become
