Re: [Phys-L] Private schools

I am trying to convince ... as are many other people. But it has little to do with deporting anyone. And please don't try to scare us with "preachers locking up gays" -- we are talking about education system, not about allowing preachers to run the political system. So far, if at all, it is the public system that "locks" unwilling people in and attempts to indoctrinate them when they have no choice but to attend. And please remember that "our tax money" includes their money too, not only yours.

I am sorry. You argument that this is equivalent to shouting fire in a crowded theater seems like a hyperbole. Why do believe so? Can you explain, please?

Ok... try convincing the millions of "informed" citizens who would deport all Mexicans and Muslims. And the fundamentalist preachers who would lock up all the gays in camps or brainwash them into being heterosexual. So, if they want to run a school that is FUNDED by our tax money... you are saying that's ok? I didn't say abolish the schools I am saying DON'T USE MY MONEY TO FUND THEM!!!!

What you are saying is the academic's equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater... is it legal? probably protected, but then again ... is it 'really' acceptable even under the 1st amendment?

Clearly the answer is YES. Unless you think that America would have been much better without the First Amendment in the first place. With narrow exceptions for clearly illegal behavior similar to the prohibition of shouting "fire" in a crowded theater. Preaching that abortion is illegal should be no different from preaching that abortion is just a simple medical procedure. Preaching that being gay is evil should be no different from preaching that there is absolutely no difference between gay and non-gay people. At least under our current constitution.

It is not the state's role in this country to choose an "approved" version of religion. To its eternal credit ... and glory.
