Sliding water filled panels and insulating panels are one tried  
method.  The "Last Whole Earth Catalog" describes such a house in the  
SW.

SW (desert) housing makes use of very thick adobe walls, etc.  They  
have high thermal inertia.

bc has found no need to use the thermal electric refrigerator in his  
cooler on the floor of his 'bile.   It averages the temp. which is  
perfect.

p.s.  The guide asks,  "Why is the cave's temp. so cold in summer?"
