Re: [Phys-l] Physics job opening in Texas (2d response to Clement)

Ron Hubbard was a very clever capable writer. He had a germ of truth, but his most important contribution was in making money from others who are gullible enough to swallow his religion. His SF books are good reads.

Actually Reuven Feuerstein pointed out that students need to become more flexible, but not too flexible. This is also what Piaget found. His study of morality found that students become more flexible and they reject the dogmatic "thou shalt" rules. So Hubbard was just making some good ideas into a rigid religion with associated clap trap.

Actually the process of helping students over misconceptions provides the student with ways of thinking that are more productive. The students learn to ask themselves questions and think about the ramifications of specific concepts.

Yes - this is exactly what Scientology teaches us. We must clear all Engrams before we can become beings who can think freely.

You can set off as much fireworks you wish, but if there are severe
preconceptions, or other mental blocks, the student may not be capable of
learning the material. This is where PER comes in. It uses techniques that
help students to overcome the mental blocks. Once these blocks have been
overcome the student can become interested in learning on their own.
