What evidence do you have that anyone "gamed" the lottery? That is quite a charge to make without some kind of evidence - even anecdotal.

Oh, don't worry. They will provide some anecdotes. Some of them may even be true. But that's not the point.

It's not just anecdotes... the truth hurts when it disrupts someone's beloved concept.

For every anecdote of misbehavior of a private or charter school one can easily provide a dozen anecdotes of misbehavior in public schools.

But, someone here has yet to tell us... once they get booted out of the charter... and I will include magnet schools here because the idea is the same.... where else can they go?

We have a UNIVERSAL system of education in this country.... EVERY child can be left behind if they desire until they are of age. Where do they go?? BACK TO THEIR SENDING SCHOOL... not on the street. We take all comers and they have to go somewhere until they are of age. Home schooling? Sure for some it works, but what about the ones you don't hear about whose parents think home schooling is to bring them to the gym for two hours every day... I knew two such children in the gym I go to.

After all, it is not as if the rates of malfeasance are lower in regular public schools. What one cannot easily provide is a case when a regular public school was ever closed because of educational malpractice or management malfeasance, while many charter schools have been closed.

"Many"... try two or maybe three out of the many that have reported scores as low as or lower than the local sending schools.
Most of the charters that were closed had that happen because the CEO's stole the funds or mis-reported the scores or misused the funding for other purposes. One of the top chartes in the city where I taught just got caught misusing their funding and had to pay back over $125,000.

The difference is that some have a vision of building a public school system while others have a vision of educating children. Different visions. Different yardsticks.

We who taught and worked out butts off for so many years are tired of being maligned by these advocates of differential education. We took ALL kids, regardless of race or color or religion, taught them, sent many on to college or gainful employment and tolerated such behaviors that would have made some of you cower and retreat back to the safety of your beloved selective schools where misbehavior is not tolerated (unless the misbehaving child is the son, daughter, or cousin of the local school board member or politician).
