Interesting thought, and one I have shared. I have come to the belief that US charter and private schools are nearly never created because parents are upset with the poor quality of their children's STEM education. It'd be great if they were.

Perusing the somewhat dated above list of 80 names of STEM-specific schools belonging to the NCSSSMST, I see the word "charter" in only one name, though there are several "governors'". I do suspect some privates, and public-private and college or university consortia.

I see no explicitly religious or sectarian names on this list.
