Re: [Phys-l] IB Physics

Ron,

I currently teach IB Physics in Tokyo and we have a combined SL/HL class. There are some things that I do that makes it easier but it is still tough to get everything in for both HL and SL in the two years we take. Mostly school related issues with scheduling and such. IB Physics SL theoretically can be completed in a year and several schools do it that way but it is cautioned against strongly by many in the IB and long time IB teachers. There is not enough time in one year to get a strong grasp of the concepts needed to score well on the exam and the work on you marking labs would pretty much drive anyone insane. I would suggest that you take the two years and cover the material properly.

For those of you who are teaching IB Physics (Standard Level): Our school is considering trying to do the entire SL IB Physics curriculum in one school year. These 11th grade students would have had no Physics in high school at all before taking this IB class, and they would be expected to be ready for the IB exams during the first week of May. This seems like an awfully short time to cover a lot of material. Are any of you out there trying to do the same thing? Thanks.
