Re: [Phys-l] Unit Conversions (was Mass and Energy)

"We are the wealthiest, most industrialized country on Earth, yet are still using confusing and outdated units. I don't understand this."

Poor countries are possibly less arrogant and do better in educating their people.

bc, who doesn't think the ruling class wishes "we" know how the world works.

p.s. I was in Sweden when they switched from left to right. For one hour none except emergency vehicles were permitted. I assisted my host in moving the clips to re aim his headlights. You see they had planed this several years previously. I thought the Calif. DOT was helping to make the shift when on my trips between Santa Barbara and Berkeley the signs were in km and miles. Now they've all disappeared but one between El Paso de Robles and King City.

Years ago, didn't Congress pass a law mandating that the US become metric?
The entire world is except us. I realize this would be a difficult task,
but how have other countries done it? We are the wealthiest, most
industrialized country on Earth, yet are still using confusing and
outdated units. I don't understand this.

We could do away with gallons. feet, pounds, and miles, and not have to
worry so much about these unit conversions and focus more on understanding
physics and how the world works.
