Donald's suggestion for explaining tablecloth jerking

Another good example of an impulse-change-of-
momentum demo is the old one of pitching a
raw egg into a loosly held vertical bed sheet.

The egg will not break since the force of the
bed sheet is applied over an extended time.

I heartily endorse Herb's suggestion.
A surprizingly high proportion of raw eggs dropped from great
heights onto medium cut grass are said to survive - unfortunately,
the pilots who have been foolishly tempted into dropping turkeys
on special occasions find a different result - and if an animal
advocate hears about it, there is the possibility of a note to
the licensing section of the FAA.
