Donald's suggestion for explaining tablecloth jerking
demos as examples of impulse and momentum
rather than inertia is excellent.
Another good example of an impulse-change-of-
momentum demo is the old one of pitching a
raw egg into a loosly held vertical bed sheet.
The egg will not break since the force of the
bed sheet is applied over an extended time.
