what I've read about it.)

I can't soothe your paranoia, as I think it is probably a good idea to
keep important, secret data off of services like this. The benefits
of the Google spreadsheet, beyond being free, are that a) it's
available from any computer, and b) it can be collaborated on (or just
viewed) by several people at once, without any special software. One
might put one's schedule on it, for instance, or have a collaborative
calculational project with one's students.

If you don't need the universal access or the collaborative aspects,
and you have Excel already, it's probably not worth anything to you as
it stands. A new toy to play with, perhaps. :)
