If you're into Photoshop, here's something else you can try. Select a small area in the top square (e.g. a circle around the letter A) and then create a new layer with that circle. You can then move the layer down until the circle covers the letter B in the lower square. You won't be able to see the edges of the circle because the grey levels are the same.
