There are those of us who really enjoyed a country HS because of the small
class size. I was the upper 5% in my class. It is easy to be a genius in a
small group, but sometimes it is wonderful to be surrounded by peers.
Discussions can be much more stimulating.

My children preferred being a small fish in a diverse big pond over being a
big fish in a tight little pond.

Now if only students could understand that they do not need a good school
but rather a "school good for them".

Pati's note reminded me of a back-handed compliment that NPR
handled out in the last day or two. Discussing parental selection
bias towards universities, I recall someone saying, " ...better to
be top dog at Northern Illinois than to be one of the crowd at
Havard..." I deduced that NIU is a smaller school?
