I had been harboring some conception of a too narrow image
of a desirable partner, on the part of young men: an identikit
of this nose, that mouth, that hair color, this height.

 But your   question brought me up short: and I see that
that particular male conception is quite generally shared -
though what constitutes "pretty" changes with culture
and epoch.
