See the discussion leading up to the amazing result given by eq.
(3.6.20) on p. 151 of Weinberg's Quantum Theory of Fields, vol. I. I
think that this represents a general formulation of your particular
analysis of a decay. I was astonished at Weinberg's result and have
wondered why it remains buried in his book. I have not seen it cited.
