Re: [Phys-l] Women Earn 46% of Undergraduate Math Degrees but Represent Only 8% of Math Professors ??

Hi all and JG-
It is an antedeluvian viewpoint that speaks of "profession" and "motherhood" as (exclusive) alternatives. When I was growing up in the '30's one of the family doctors was Dr. Walker. Her son was for 3 years the all-conference running and passing back on the high school football team. He then went to a small west-coast college, I think it was called Stanford, but I don't recall that he played ball there. I have no recollection that Dr. Walker, who was married to an M.D., was considered an oddity.
Regards,
Jack

Is that your message, Herb?

No, his msg is that women who chose the occupation of motherhood --
an occupation far more valuable than a professorship -- should be honored.
