1) To find _studies_, did they try searching ERIC?  I get 30
hits by going to
   http://www.eric.ed.gov/
and typing in
   "student response system"
(including the quotes).  And those cite others.

2) If you insist on _solid_ studies ... that puts us back
in the realm of opinion.  Solidity is in the eye of the
beholder.  I'll let you be the judge.

3) The fact that the search turns up only dozens of studies,
not thousands of studies, should tell you something.
