And the 3-dim example, of the uniform charge distribution, is the atomic
nucleus, in the liquid drop model. The first theory of nuclear fission
was based on this model (N. Bohr and J. Wheller, 1939). I know that the
atomic nucleus is not an insulator, Darwin, it is only an illustration
of the usefulness of the concept.
