Re: HTML

At 10:53 PM 11/16/97 EST, it was written:
... probably has the best solution, just delete the message.
We are fortunate on this list that few people have felt the need to make
our
life so difficult.

It seems that it is a bit rash to decide that a message is not worth reading
because it uses a format that you do not like. If you are seeing html
formatting information, or if you mailer is saving attachments with no clear
purpose, then your mailer is confused by the output of other email programs.

Further, let's not say that "email is for text only!" While we're not quite
there, remember all the discussions a while back (like years back) about
incorporating equations in phys-l postings? While html isn't quite there, as
implemented in most email programs, it's a lot closer than is plain text.
Soon we'll be able to send readable equations gracefully, and it will
require sending something other than plain text. Something like html, I'd
wager.

Since it is not possible to control what other people send to the list, as
Dick rightly points out, why not use a mailer that was written within the
last few years?

Eudora Light, a free program you can grab from www.eudora.com, will
correctly interpret html messages, but it will not send html messages.
(Which is, if you think about it, a Good Thing.)
