Subject: Applicants Sought For Galileo "Ambassador to Jupiter" Program

APPLICANTS SOUGHT FOR
GALILEO "AMBASSADOR TO JUPITER" PROGRAM

Project Galileo is again seeking applicants for the Educational Ambassador
to Jupiter Program for K-12 educators in the United States. The role of the
educational ambassadors will be to inform their local communities about
what's happening with the Galileo mission and the fascinating findings from
our tour of the Jovian system. They will

1. Participate in an introductory training session to be conducted via
telecon, web technology videocon, e-mail distribution, or other
electronic means (at their own locations, concurrently).
2. Conduct two local Galileo public events (for example, a teacher
workshop, PTA or school board presentation, regional scout group talk)
to provide general information on the Galileo mission and some of the
interesting results being obtained about Jupiter and its system.
3. Work with a local science museum or planetarium to set up a program
involving Galileo's results (slides, videos, etc. are available).
4. Send a brief e-mail report to the Galileo Outreach Office after each
public event or planetarium/museum coordination effort.

Two educators from each state in the United States will be selected by
Project Galileo to be the local representatives for our program. From the
first round of selections last spring, we now have 16 Ambassadors from 13
different states who are already underway with their great plans and
presentations in their communities. We still need at least one more
Ambassador from every state (except Delaware, Minnesota, and New York), so
we encourage you to apply!

In return for their proactive public education about the Galileo mission and
its stunning results from Jupiter's system, each ambassador will receive
bimonthly direct mailings of the latest Galileo public and educational
outreach products (videos, posters, postcards, brochures, slide sets, and
educator guides). The initial term for the ambassadors will be September
through December 1997. (Renewal is possible for the extended mission.) At
the end of a term, ten ambassadors will be randomly selected to receive a
framed Galileo image, T-shirt, and mug.

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 2, 1997!

Since all correspondence will be handled through e-mail, you must have
e-mail access to participate. Applications will be received from e-mail
ONLY. To obtain an application form, send your e-mail to
ambassadors@galileo.jpl.nasa.gov and in the body of the message include
"Please send Ambassador to Jupiter application form." Instructions on how to
apply are on the application form. September 2, 1997, is the deadline for
e-mailing your application; selected ambassadors will be notified September
10, 1997, by e-mail.
