I don't remember seeing any responses to keeping gelatin in long term
photoelastic experiments. It's been a while, but I think 5% glycerine
will help keep the gelatin from drying out and 5% methyl alcohol will
discourage mold. You might want to experiment with the % of each, depending
on the results you get.
