Subject: Color code for resistors
I am following the mail lists for physics teachers. This week they
are in a sweat about devising a non-sexist mnemonic for resistor
color codes. The traditional one, that I and everyone else learned 40
years ago is:
Black Brown Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Violet Gray White
Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly
This has served well, but I guess there is no denying the
feminization of our institutions.
Can you guys come up with a catchy limerick? They need something
and the other suggestions they have made are no better that this one.

Here are a limerick and a G&S adaptation, neither of which will
bring a flush of shame or embarassment to any fair cheek.
While BLACK and BROWN colors are near,
And RED, ORANGE, YELLOW for beer,
GREEN, VIOLET,BLUE, GRAY,
Like on rainy day,
Dampens the WHITE sheets, I fear.
To be sung to, "I'm Called Little Buttercup"
BLACK, BROWN, as in beat 'em up,
RED, ORANGE, YELLOW pup,
GREEN, BLUE, like sea, so they say,
A VIOLET popping up,
GRAY waiter mopping up,
WHITE is for my wedding day!
