CBL Information ALERT!!

Dear CBL Users,

Texas Instruments has recently updated and improved the TI CBL home page with
information on
CBL programs, known CBL Workbooks, Probe Manufactures, sample CBL activities!

http://www.ti.com/calc/docs/cbl.htm

The CBL programs for TI's three workbooks have been improved and programs for
the TI83 and TI92 have been added. CBL programs now have a title page with a
Version number listed, i.e. V1.1. When a program is changed and posted we will
increase the Version number so y'all know you have the latest!

Please visit the CBL home page OFTEN and let us know what you think!

Real-World Math with the CBL System: (WKBKIII)

Chris Brueningsen, Bill Bower, Linda Antinone and Elisa Brueningsen

Contains 25 activities using the TI-82 and CBL with TI and Vernier probes.
Provides fun and exciting ways to explore real-world applications of
mathematical concepts from algebra through calculus. The CBL is used to
collect motion, force, sound, light, and temperature data. Background, set-up
diagrams, and instructions are given for each activity. Space is provided to
record data along with complete easy-to-follow exercises with clear calculator
keystrokes. "Extensions" and further applications are included in most
activities for advanced independent investigations. Plus, teacher information
sheets contain helpful notes for completing the activities, as well as sample
data plots and answers to student questions.

The CBL programs for this workbook are also available for the TI-83 and TI-92.

Available from: Texas Instruments or your educational distributor.

Meridian CBL Explorations Series:

CBL Explorations in Precalculus for the TI-82
CBL Explorations in Precalculus for the TI-85
CBL Explorations in Calculus for the TI-82
CBL Explorations in Calculus for the TI-85

Students learn mathematics the hands-on way -- in the context of physical
reality. Written for high school and first or second year college students.
Using a TI-82 or 85 Graphing Calculator and other clearly specified items,
students perform easy-to-follow experiments to discover the physical reality
behind the mathematical principles of PreCalculus and Calculus.

CBL Explorations in Algebra.. covers topics such as rates and absolute value,
real numbers, scatter plots, slope, linear equations (I & II), linear systems,
negative exponents, exponential equations, quadratic equations (I & II),
inverse variation, functions, statistics, and rectangular prisms. The TI-82 and
83 graphing calculator programs are available on disk in Macintosh and PC
formats.

CBL Explorations in Chemistry.. covers Boyle's Law, Charles' Law,
freezing-point depression, heats of solutions, a series of environmental
explorations which take advantage of the CBL's portability, and many other
experiments. The TI-82 and 83 graphing calculator programs are available on
disk in Macintosh and PC formats.

CBL Explorations in Biology.. explores issues in cells, the human body, plants,
and ecology. Examples include: diffusion experiments, plasma and the pH of
blood, chlorophyll and the spectrum of light, and fish and dissolved oxygen.
The TI-82 and 83 graphing calculator programs are available on disk in
Macintosh and PC formats.

TI-82 & CBL Lab Applications In Biology and Chemistry

Penney Sconzo and Chris Harrow

This manual shows how an integrated approach to teaching math and science can
be accomplished through laboratory activities. Science teachers can update
their math skills as they try new methods of collecting and analyzing data.
Math teachers can also find scientific applications for students to explore.
Density, pH, and reaction rates are covered in chemistry. Osmosis, respiration
rates, and enzyme activity are among the biology activities. Introductions
provide information for the labs and allow teachers to see where they fit into
their curriculum and at what level. Instructions are also provided to perform
experiments and data collection using a TI-82, CBL, or conventional measuring
devices. Additional comments attempt to integrate the mathematical analysis
with the scientific concepts.

The YOU-Based Laboratory

These twelve classroom-ready explorations were written and tested by a team of
Utah junior and senior high school math and science teachers. They worked with
faculty members at Weber State University to devise explorations that encourage
students to apply mathematics and science to situations that interest them.

Microchemistry for the TI-92/CBL System
Tom Russo

Microchemistry for the CBL System marries the efficiency of Microchemistry to
the technology of TI. The first Microchemistry manual has been updated to use
TI technology to further enhance microchemistry experiments for high school and
college. The entire curriculum is spanned in the seventeen experiments with
student data sheets, teacher's edition with data and answers for student
questions. The manual is a Site License. This allows teachers to share the
experiments with any other faculty member in the building without breaking
copyright laws.
