Re: teaching loads and quality

Let me suggest that it is very difficult to compare teaching loads. There
are just too many variables. 1) Number of Students 2) graders? 3) demo
setup person? 4) lab assistants or not? 5) number of preps --4 different
courses or 4 distinct courses? 6) are these new preps or have you taught the
course 10 times? 7) the nature of assessments (quizzes, tests, PAPERS) 8)
other expectations?

A 6 hour University load with a batallion of graders, lab assistants, and
demo people looks 'cushy' to someone with 18 hours and virtually no help.
However, that 6 hour person may be expected to produce 3-5 papers per year,
supervise several graduate research projects, and write grants to bring
millions into the University, while the College demanding 18 hours may may
have much lower expectations in terms of research. To be sure, it's not a
level playing field and those with the largest loads probably get paid the
least. [Learn to hit a curve ball and then you too can make $40,000 for
each at bat!]
