Why do I keep getting these messages?

Confirmation of reading: your message -

Date: 2 Apr 96 16:05
Subject: Interactive Physics and Netscape cont.

Was read at 10:43, 2 Apr 1996.

I think it is because the original sender of the note, whose subject was
"Interactive Physics and Newscape cont" had requested acknowledgment of
reading. This tag was carried in the PHYS-L distribution, so when Don read
it, his mailer sent an acknowledgment back to the sender of *his* mail,
which was phys-l. Listproc just figured it was a post and circulated it.
The same thing happened when *anybody" opened that post to read it.

I've written the sender of that original note and asked that the
"Confirm-On-Reading" tag be NOT USED on posts to phys-l, or for that matter
to *any* list.
