That depends on what you mean by "the" eruption.

*) There was an eruption on 20 December 2021.
*) There was an eruption on 14 January 2022.
*) Then there was a huge eruption on 15 January 2022.

Undoubtedly some animals responded to the precursors.

Some humans were aware of the precursors
Some were not.
