Oh sorry!  The condix:  run w/a mass, measure A;  stop it;  add mass, start it; wait for transient to “die out” then measure.  Note the assumption that adding mass doesn’t change the period, etc.

Of course.  I did that experiment,  well, ... more correctly dropped the mass held by electromagnet.  Cell powering the E-M is part of the bob, etc.  This was 10–15 years ago, and too busy to find description in my note book.  The description may be in my site.  I’ve stopped horology for measuring natural radioactivity ….  Mushrooms collected in Sweden after Chernobyl, and the wind driven ag. soil in Salinas.[1]  Must use the bile’s window washer nearly every day.

[1]  By the time I start measuring (G-M tube; The Nucleus - 550)  the short half live(s) are long gone and the remaining is rather long — Haven’t plotted yet to attempt to discover the isotope(s)  I thought Bi and Po.  Can’t believe it’s Th, and/or U.     I have a two inch xtal and an ancient MCA (Quantum 8 from eBay), which I used to verify the Cs in the mushrooms.    I have an old floor top W/an MCA in its slot, but requires a + properly shaped pulse, perhaps that’s my next project.    

A BTW:  Weird weather:  for the last few weeks, contrary to the majority of California,  Salinas air temp has not exceeded 20C!  Despite running a 300 W dehumidifier (to kill the dust mites) during much of the day in the bed room, It’s not uncomfortably warm.    Treat the source, not the symptoms, if possible.
