Re: [Phys-L] astronomy activities

Another detailed instruction of “high quality” pendulum in here: https://www.amazon.com/Scientific-Americans-Amateur-Scientist-Science/dp/0970347626

bc visited the Panthéon where Léon second denonstrated his pendulum (across the courtyard from where he obtained a copy of his mother’s mariage certifitate [the 5th mayor’s office]); then an original version in the Muséé des arts et Métiers.

How about building and demonstrating a Foucault pendulum to show the effect of Earth's rotation on its axis? Here are some links about making a Foucault pendulum:

"A Foucault’s pendulum design" (http://www.foucaultpendulum.nl/Foucault/Theory-files/Salva.pdf)
Phys-L has had other links on Foucault's pendulum (https://www.phys-l.org/cgi-bin/namazu.cgi?query=Foucault+Pendulum).
