Re: [Phys-L] Digital Hearing Aids

Bernard,
If you care to say, the sum of what sound exposures, chemicals, illnesses,
dietary factors and genetics brought on your degree of hearing loss?

This is a bit late. Update: — since, I've purchased the $6+k Phonak
(insurance only $2k paid)

The Phonak people say the one Costco sells (for $2k) is the next to the
top.

My previous are 4+ years. The new a huge improvement. BUT one huge
prob. The “ear molds” are too large. I can wear only a few hours before
too uncomfortable to wear, so I wear only when needed. Since I’m > 60 dB
down they are deep into the canals in order to prevent feedback.

I suppose it depends on the mfg..

I dropped one in the toilet, scooped it up, rinsed it in tap water, then
reverse osmosized water, and then 91% 2-propanol. This was several years
ago and it worked well —replaced now, and still works. One of my more
recent sets died, so I’m using the old one again. Since the contacts are
gold plated, the IC potted, etc., the only source of trouble may be the
“soft” speaker. Is it isolated w/ a tympanum? At least one citation does
this with a wax plug.

bc just discovered Costco dispenses two mfg.'s top of their lines for <
$2k.

p.s. tomorrow I’ll price my insurance’s. It may be less expensive to pay
Costco rather than the insurance co-pay
