[Phys-L] The Make-Believe World of Real-World Physics

From: WC Maddox
I am not a big fan of the monkey shoot but there are reasons to do it.

A. Technical point: In the ideal world of introductory physics the shot is fired at the same time as the monkey lets go.

B. There is a real world motivation. Look up howler monkeys.

C. It serves as a demonstration in GR.

D. Brain exercise. Why is it that "no pain no gain" applies to body exercise but for the brain the rule seems to be "don't strain the brain"?

E. Apparently MIT has lowered its standards and now has redneck physics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxvsHNRXLjw) .
