Re: [Phys-L] weird elevator touch button switches

Many (most?) elevators have buttons in several rows/columns, easy to press
by most people. The real question is where are the #13 buttons?

I lived in a high-rise in the DC area that had these capacitive buttons
with neon backlights in the elevator. On high humidity days, if the AC
wasn't working well the buttons would "spontaneously" set themselves (due
to the humidity). Some days I would return from work only to have
buttons pushed on floors 3 through 18. I lived on the 20th. Also, the
call buttons on the floors would set spontaneously. So frustrating!
Also, the close door function didn't work and the doors would have to
time out before they would close.

And the winner is.... drum roll... Mr. Sears. And can you all explain
the
exception that he offered?

The man is don't tall enough to press the button for the 20th floor.
You can
make this riddle more interesting by adding the idea that on days that
its
raining he can exit the 20th floor...I'm sure you can see why this is
possible

way off topic....
An elevator riddle: A man lives on the 20th floor of a high rise
condo
building. Every morning he goes to work and the elevator takes him to
the
lobby where he walks to the train. In the evening, on returning to
work he
gets into the elevator and presses the button for floor 12, gets out and
proceeds to walk up the rest of the way to his condo on the 20th floor.
What's going on? (no, it's not to get the exercise)
