Re: [Phys-L] Indicators of quality teaching (Was:MOOC:EdxOffers Mechanics course by Prof.Walter Lewin)

They are equivalent, but I like the FMCE better because it has the type of
questions that I like better. Also the questions are grouped so you can
easily see what is being tested. But the raw scores fall on the same line,
so both are testing the same things. I have changed the format of the FMCE
just slightly so that it uses a conventional scantron. But I would prefer
to have some way of automatically making a spreadsheet of the individual
answers for each student so I could easily analyze the data more. The
scantron machine I have access to does not have this capability. The FMCE
answers look really odd when put on a scantron and this throws the students
for a loop. I always caution them that absolutely no questions are matching
and some answers may be used more than once and other answers may not be
used at all. But they still want to use all 7 answers for the for the first
7 questions. I can glance at the scantron and visually see whether students
did well or no.

Any thoughts on the fmce vs the fci? I use the fci. Think I
might add some others for electricity etc... I am curious
about fmce vs fci.
