Here is another interesting reference--listing the cost in lives per
trillion kilowatt hours from different energy sources. One thing to
look at here (besides how safe nuclear really is) is the vast difference
between coal fired electricity in China versus the U.S. Unlike the early
development of electricity in Europe and America, we know the problems
and have the technology to severely lessen the risks (at least from air
pollution). The Chinese have chosen not to use that technology and to
ignore the health consequences. So, leading by example really may not
be enough.
