Re: [Phys-L] physics with and/or without calculators

Hard to change the calculator culture of teachers, school, and standardized
tests.
All kids have calculators. Students will use them at home. And they would
want/expect to be able to use them on a test.

My husband has been teaching his Physics and Digital Electronics (Project
Lead the Way) students to use a slide rule. The students seem to grasp the
mathematical theories and sig figs a lot better (after the initial screaming
and gnashing of teeth). He borrows them free of charge for several months
from the Slide Rule Museum

just a bit of info in case you are interested.
