Acceptable answers to 10.53 + 0.615 would be 11.145 or 11.15. In my
opinion it would be pedantic to insist that one of these answers is any
more correct than the other.

On the other hand, if the task were 10.53 + 0.6152, I would have to
insist that only 11.145 or 11.15 be considered acceptable answers.

I can't imagine a scenario where any other answers would be more
meaningful, whether you're adding the height of a block to the thickness
of a coat of paint, adding the results of two measurements, or adding
two amounts of money.
