Re: [Phys-L] Corporal punishment

But the flip side is that they send their children to schools like the one
in Louisiana where they are taught that the Loch Ness monster is real and
proves the world is 6000 years old. The big difficulty with vouchers is
that schools that accept them are not required to give the same tests as the
public schools.

In addition a large metastudy showed that private schools on the average
were no better than public schools, and some in particular were worse.
Catholic schools had lower math learning, but Lutherans scored higher. Go
figure. In addition I know a biology teacher in a Catholic school who was
intimidated from teaching evolution. This was not the Catholic school that
did it, but his previous experiences in other schools.

This is why voucher systems are so important. Catholic
Grammar and High Schools are totally free to teach correct
science. The church actively encourages it. For the moment
parents can escape the madness of legislated curricula by
enrolling their kids in such schools.
