Re: [Phys-L] blue road physics

Quoting John Denker <jsd@av8n.com>:

So Huggins is wrong twice over: Velocity-dependent mass is not
the quick-and-easy approach even in the short term, and even if
it were, it would be unwise based on longer-term considerations.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.

The first step to understand the crux of the matter is not velocity-dependent mass, but the equivalence of energy and mass.

In Okun’s (1989) paper, he disagrees with relativistic mass and explains that it is bad to define mass by using the equation, m = E/c2.

However, in Wilczek’s (2004) Nobel speech, he explains that “mass comes from energy”. In addition, he suggests Einstein’s Second law: m = E/c2.

Therefore, those who advocate relativistic mass, I believe, do not only think in terms of velocity-dependent mass; but the equivalence of energy and mass.
