The 'scanner' was another bit of the 'fluff' in this piece. (IMHO)Hand scanners are out there - and helpful for reverse engineering. You need a CAD 3-D file to define interior and hidden surfaces. You need to specify which parts touch but roll or slide too.
The final product was NOT identical to the originally scanned wrench!!!
Actual input to the 'printer' is a 3d CAD file.

The biggest question I have, perhaps related to the you-tube video_
of the wrench, but perhaps not. If you are trying to print off a
complicated machine with interior parts that are physically
contiguous with other moving parts. How would the scanner be able
to scan these interior pieces in general. I suspect not. Would the
movable jaw adjustment screw of the wrench be a subset of this
scenario??
