Re: [Phys-l] the uniqueness of entropy

Regarding:

1a) In science, there is only one definition of energy.

Do we have a correct definition of energy?
This is something new for me...

Alphonsus

Here is my definition of energy.

Energy: The value of the mathematical expression that generates an infinitesimal virtual displacement of a dynamical system in time.

This definition holds for both classical and quantum dynamical systems.

Note this definition means that the energy of a system depends on the reference frame/coordinatization of the dynamical system in question. In particular, it typically depends on the direction in spacetime of the time axis used for the reference frame/coordinate system. It is also ill-defined for gravitational energy for a number of GR-related situations.
