The Chicago Style Manual references ibid. 8X, and only warns against overuse as a "string or 'garland"" of ibids. Incidentally in Roman, sic in italic. Loc. sit., op. sit., and idem. are passing out of fashion. U. of C. Press uses the short form instead.

These long served as space savers in scholarly works. (paraphrase)

bc thinks, evidently, scientific articles are not scholarly works.

Note: bc did not use "chapter and verse".
