My experience in contesting a claimed mechanism was quite disappointing -- The ed. simply referred me to the original article about which I disagreed.  Fortunately, I found someone who had done research on the subject; he confirmed my supposition in direct contradiction to the article's claim.   So I "felt" a bit better.
