I looked over the short piece in New Scientist reporting the monthly
notice of the RAS, setting out the anomalous observation of two quasar
groups, with red shifts indicating one group at twice the distance of the other, but whose characteristic pulse repetition period was not in the same ratio,
being closer to 1:1.

Those observations were quite clearly stated: what was unclear, even ridiculous
(and labeled as such) was the speculation as to possible causes for the discrepancy.

If by some chance, observer error is eliminated, it will be interesting to see the
adjustment to the customary philosophical linkages between red shift,
distance, expansion etc.
