The first half is genuine, and actually demonstrates the second law, but not
the first because the objects actually move a bit.

This is the typical first law demo, which merely confirms what students
already know. A demo which confronts their misconceptions is seldom done.
They have to see that when forces are balanced object MOVE at a constant
rate.

It is cute, but not very useful pedagogically.
