Re: [Phys-l] Richard Dawkins Answers Reddit Questions

It is insulting; that's why I thought I hadn't implied so.

The chair (Professor) of the dept. that awarded my PhD was rather "high up" in the C of E. His physics lectures to the foundation year students were famous for their lucidity, interest, etc. He had many grad. student researchers. I'm certain he completely decoupled.

"As a committed Christian, and a regular worshipper at Canterbury Cathedral, he also developed close links between the university and the cathedral, where the degree congregation came to be held as well as the annual carol services and concerts. When the bishops of the Anglican Communion came to England for the 1988 Lambeth Conference they lived and held their sessions on the university campus and were welcomed by David Ingram and his wife, whose warm friendship made an official gathering a more personal and memorable experience, especially for those who came from overseas."

The above orbit. slights his relationship w/ The church. I couldn't find the orbit. that lists his offices in the church, etc. [Perhaps shows the bias of the secular "Independent"] Note for those not familiar w/ UK Us. governance: The VC is the CEO of a U. (pardon the capitalist expression) the C. is a figurehead. Keel's, while I was there, was Princess Margaret! However, the Princess probably assisted in obtaining grants, etc. in addition to attending the annual Royal Ball, etc.

bc remembers him and Geraldine well, and is very sorry he didn't know they were in Canterbury when he visited there in 1984.

p.s. My best English friend, whom I met in 1968, and hosts us often, is very active in his church. He's married to the personal secretary of the Archbishop of York.

Seems insulting to people with religious beliefs, to me.
