Re: [Phys-l] Conservative science?

At the time of the Scopes trial the Democratic party was led By William
Jennings Bryan who was deeply Fundamentalist, but politically liberal, so
the pendulum has certainly swung various ways. Eisenhower and Nixon would
not have been evolution deniers, but Bush certainly was. Actually during
the middle 20th century the fundamentalists were not politically active.

One must fact the fact that at present they are active and are voting as a
block for one party, which has skewed the scientific understanding of the
general public.

So has anyone here been subject to pressure or seen colleagues subject to
pressure on scientific matters because of this anti-science political
crusade. I did know a biology teacher who was reluctant to teach evolution
because of this, even when he was not teaching in a Fundamentalist HS.
