Jack,

I am genuinely distressed to hear your opinion of AJP and especially  
your allegation that its editor treats it as a "personal blog."   
These are serious charges that I would hope would not be leveled  
lightly.  Nevertheless, in my role as a consulting editor for AJP,  
this has not been my experience.

Of course, editors depend on referees to fill in gaps in their own  
expertise and the assignment of referees is an imperfect exercise,  
but I suspect it would be difficult if not impossible to do it in a  
way that would satisfy a measurably larger number of people.  In any  
event, I wonder if you have communicated your concerns to Jan  
Tobochnik, the current editor.

Moreover, because I will assume the position of Acting Editor of AJP  
in July, I invite you and anyone else to share your concerns with  
me.  Of course, I can't promise anyone satisfaction, but I DO promise  
you that I'll take legitimate concerns seriously and that I will  
appreciate all suggestions offered in good faith.
