A smaller classroom scale (as opposed to the bus) is a tethered balloon (mte sealed bottle) in a big glass (plastic) bottle filled w/ water.

Not incidentally this is similar to a Hewitt question in a recent TPT regarding a falling apple.

I've seen a few folks (I don't remember the origin) use a He balloon in a bus or student car as a nice starting point for a discussion of accelerations, N1, & N2.
