Re: [Phys-l] Refractive index of gases

Thanks John,

However, it still leaves me with having to look up constants.... But more worryingly can I say that the permitivity of the gas as a whole is the sum of the permitivyt of the atoms that it is made up of? I don't know ?

I am trying to find the refractive index of HeNe at low pressure. I have googled this and can't
find a value. I wish to use this in calculating the cavity mode gap for a HeNe laser of cavity

You could calculate it easily.

Or look in Feynman.
