For sure you want to read Kittel and Kroemer before starting
the text-evaluation process, so you can at least see what's
wrong with the others.
Even if you adopt something else, you want to have Kittel
and Kroemer around as a supplement and reference.

Remember that the usual textbook presentation is severely
messed up ... and it doesn't have to be that way. Thermo
is actually quite elegant if done right.
