Re: [Phys-l] Newsletter On Line

Until googling just now, I wondered about the Herriot -- Watt is obvious.

Rick Steves interviewee (PPS Sat. or Sun.) claims Scotland was a powerhouse of intellectuality greater than the rest of Europe in the 18 and 19 cents., because Knox believed everyone should be able to read the bible, as a result free ed. in Scotland and the flourishing of science and engineering greater than expected for such a small population. Watt is one example. The short arms and deep pockets, and Protestant ethic are related to this.

bc, who saw one of the Watts' engines in the Science Museum (London) this summer.

I picked up this academic flyer on a newsgroup.
I have not yet sampled it.
Herriot-Watt is a Scottish university, Glasgow, I think?
